Spread them cards! - the page for your favourite or classic card or rune reading spreads :)

Networkers!  Send me your favourtie reading spreads so that others can try them out and use them as their favourites, too!  Don't be shy - any spread is a useful spread.  P.S.:  With it being Christmas / Litha in a few days, and thus New Year a few days later, any New Year spreads are very welcome :)

A):  First Spread:  The Loose Cards

Picture
This spread is rather easy to use.  It allows for the querent to add cards should he or she want to, but can also be ended by using the last card as the "Solution / Outcome".

1.  The first card is either the querent (in the case of a general reading), or the situation card.  Please, never use this reading to read about a third party - it is a violation of privacy.

2.  The second row of cards (often only a single card), is taken from what falls out while the querent is shuffling the deck.  They (or it) stand for the aspect of the first card that needs to be asked and answered - so, if the first card is the querent him- ot herself, and the next cards are, for instance, the 3 of Pentacles and the 4 of Cups, the reading will focus on why the querent is unhappy doing what they are doing job-wise.

3.  The third row of cards is made up of the cards the querent has pulled from the deck.  There is no set number of cards - it's easier for the querent to choose how many cards are needed here.  I've noticed that the more cards that are chosen, the deeper the readings in terms of self or emotion.

4.  To end the reading, the very last card is seen as the outcome, unless the querent wants to add to the line.  In that case, ask him of her to draw only two more cards - in this way, you get a better feel as the reader on how to guide them with the outcome.  Also, to make sure that the querent understands that the reading is about to end, keep these last two cards separate fro the others by putting them in a line of their own.

5.  Go over the reading with the querent again once this has been done.  Answer any questions he or she has about specific cards - very often the questions will be on how that card relates to the cards around it.

6.  Have fun!!

B):  Second Spread:  Want, Need, Get

Picture
This spread is a variation of the the simple three-card tarot spread.  As with all three-card spreads, this one is easy to use and easy to understand, on top of being quick.

1.  What you Want:  (the violet block).  Once the querent has shuffled the deck, this card is drawn from anywhere.  This what the querent wants, whether it is acknowledged or accepted, or not.

2.  What you Need:  (the navy block).  As with the Want card, and the Get card that follows it, this card is chosen from anywhere in the deck.  This card signifies what is necessary in the querent's life in relation to the question or situation.  As with most cards signifying needs, many feel some trepidation in with this part of the reading, so be gentle; forcing the querent to see the missing pieces may cause more damage than good.

3.  What you'll Get:  (the scarlet block).  This card is (obviously) the culmination of the reading.  It could serve as a warning for things to come, that the querent neither wants nor needs, but that will happen to balance out the conflicts.  Be careful to tell the querent that, should this be an "unfavourable" card, he or she can still change the outcome by making and sticking to a choice.
